Original artwork description:

Oil painting of an Ospry (Fish Hawk). It the the most common raptor that I see as I live on the coast of Florida and see them frequently. This is a global bird with little variation in plumage and sexes. They are thrilling to watch as they fly and fish. I am often inspired by a characteristic of a bird or scene and once inspired, start to study in the field the subject in question. I often explore remote locations and capture sketches or study images to take back to my studio for more detailed works.

I build my own panels from aluminum composite panels and fix belgium linen in an archival process. Then I prepare the panel with oil grounds to make a rather smooth surface for detailed painting. After waiting six months, I then varnish the painting to protect the surface. I know my process is very time consuming but designed to assure archival longevity.

Materials used:

Oil paint/oil ground on Belgium Linen afixed to Aluminum Composite Panel
