Artist's description:

A small piece incorporating print and paint techniques and pigments. This is one of a series based on the the origins of man and showing the Tree of Life. It uses bright glowing reds and dark not-quite-blacks.

This particular tree is what anthropopogists call a 'cladogram', illustrating the different branches of mankind as they evolved (or didn't). I am fascinated by tree shapes, both natural and stylised, and this one lends itself well to the more formal technique of print.

But in the end this is all about the mysterious spark of life, brightness in the dark.

Materials used:

handmade paper, acrylics, inks, pigments and pastels

Origins: Red Tree (2013)
