Lemons are one of my favourite subjects to paint and when it comes to still life, they are my absolute favourite fruit. So when I got a bunch of big juicy lemons, I had to paint them before they were used up.
I set up these fruits against very cool natural light on a cloudy afternoon, and went about capturing the different tones. Since the light was hardly strong and I had no real light and shadow to depict, I went about having so much fun with the edges and brushwork. Take a look at the close ups to see the various pulls and pushes of my brushes. You can see that I had fun.
This original painting is done on a small stretched canvas. It ships unframed.
