Artist's description:

This painting is inspired by my love of Japanese culture and in particular Zen meditation known as Zazen (just sitting). I was struck by this image of a Geisha and wanted to paint her. I knew that I wanted to incorporate the texture of her hair, so that the surface gave a suggestion of the sculptural nature of the Geisha's hair. I'm particularly interested in Cubism and the background for this painting is a little bit of a nod towards that art movement, hence the title Oriental Square.

Materials used:

Acrylic paint on Linen
