The meeting between Man and Nature often takes on characteristics of a struggle, a battle or even a collision of two very different worlds. Man indeed comes from Nature, and Nature provides Man with all he needs for his survival and happiness. However, the inexorable force that Man, Technology and Civilization itself use to subdue Nature to comply with its desires often takes rather an aggressive form and this thought is what lies at the centre of this painting. I wanted to visualise the frenzied energy of Man, moving forward like a wave of often dubious progress, met by the rather surprised and often unprepared state of Nature and its predominantly less menacing inhabitants. To counter this rather bleak message I decided to work in a fresh naivety into the picture, and I enjoy involving humour in the narrative when I can. The message is always of secondary importance and my main focus is to create a painting that first and foremost looks appealing and will stand the test of time as a unique work of art. This painting comes unframed but stringed and is ready to hang on the wall.
