One of a series of paintings of the same location at different times of the year. The location is the small island (ait) of Oliver's Island on the River Thames at Strand On The Green in West London. Very subdued palette on this one to try and get across the icy weather. The poplar trees on the island are there no more. Apparently Oliver Cromwell and his followers stayed on here prior to taking over the country in the Civil war. Apparently....
