Katherine and Matty Jay at Old Leigh. As well working as a painter I also make my living by teaching adults. A couple of years ago I had an idea to create a “sketch crawl” course where we would take a wander through Old Leigh and stop and sketch anything that grabbed our attention on the way. Well, this was one of the scenes that hooked us in as we walked from Leigh Station through the Old town. The tide was coming in quickly that afternoon creating interesting reflections and shapes in the creek. I also liked the repeated rhythms of blue created by the fishing boat hulls which run through the painting. We sketched took photos and sketched quickly that afternoon these became the basis for the painting.
