I was recently in Australia where I became fascinated by the ocean pools at the beaches. I sat and watched and sketched for hours as waves crashed and broke over the pool walls, disturbing the calm waters within. The relationship between these contained areas of 'protected' water for recreation, and the wild open sea, has inspired a new series of small paintings on paper.
