Nymph,graphics.The lower female divinities, which according to the belief of the Greeks lived in the seas, rivers, springs, caves, on mountains, in groves and meadows. They were divided into several classes: inasmuch, what places they inhabited.
1) Sea nymphs, which belonged to the Oceanid, the daughter of Oceanus and Nereids, nymphs of the Mediterranean sea, daughters of Nereus;
2) the nymphs of the waters on the mainland, or Naiads, who were treated nymphs of springs, rivers and lakes;
3) nymphs of mountains and grottoes, or Oread; 4) nymphs of the valley, or Nanen; 5) nymphs of the trees, or Dryads, who were born and died with the trees in which they lived.
