NYJ_212 - short for New York Jazz - is an abstract, figurative painting made with acrylics and sumi-e ink on canvas board. Contrasting strong geometric and repetitive shapes (inspired by musical rhythms) with the human figure, the abstract painting becomes more humane and approachable. Specifically, it is inspired by architectural elements -- the partly somewhat "unapproachable" New York city blocks yet also the modern architecture of of famous phiharmonic halls -- and the stylish, groovy NY musicians in the city on the other hand. It continuous my style of combining and seemlessly blending abstract and figurative shapes into one painting.
