I started this painting on a cold, wet beach, with debris left around me on the shore by the storm tide. A greenish light, but still blue in the Cornish sea. The painting began in acrylic, establishing the mood, structure and colour of the place. Rain began and I had to run back to the van with the canvas - drips still show where the rain washed the acrylic. Later, back in the studio I tried to respond to the image with gestural marks and layers in oil, keeping the energy and expressiveness of the beach, sea and cliffs.
