This little bushy tailed squirrel visits my garden every morning, and I love looking at his antics from the kitchen window as I have my morning coffee. I love its cheerfulness and optimism, and it really brings that much needed spring in my step every morning.
This is the second in my red squirrel linocuts where I have added foliage in green as a striking contrast to the squirrel, using plants from my own garden and those around in the conservation area in Formby. I have only made 3 prints in this limited edition design and only one is now available.
This is made from my own original sketch and design, which I then transferred to a Lino block to carve and ink by hand. Due to the handmade nature of the prints, each print can have slight variations but it makes each of them original and unique.
The red squirrel is native to Britain but has been close to extinction due to the introduction of the grey squirrel. But, this is a survivor! Loss of habitats is also a major issue in its extinction. The red squirrel prefers the Scots Pine, and so I have introduced in this print a sprig of the needle like leaves and pine cone from a Scots Pine tree. I am involved with local conservation organisations and charities and this is a cause very close to my heart. I hope that this linocut raises awareness into maintenance of habitats for such endangered species.
The print is made on a beautiful satin cream Somerset paper, which is thick, strong and highly absorbent and gives it a smooth distinctive finish, and printed with oil-based printing inks.
The copyright (c) Pragya Agarwal 2016 is not transferred with the purchase of this print. Each print is sent unframed but in a secure hard backed envelope with tissue and bubble wrap in an attractive packaging.
All sizes are approximate.
