Nothing But The Kitchen Sink is a play on the saying 'Everything but the kitchen sink'. This is an idiomatic phrase used to describe someone who has almost everything, needed or not.
Here you can see that the edge of the sink sits on the edge of the canvas, there is no where else to look besides the sink itself.
The identifying feature of this piece is its frame; I have hollowed out an actual kitchen worktop and sunk the painting inside to sit flush with the frame. It is almost as if the painting and its frame are trying to replicate and become the object itself, a theme that will continue to crop up throughout my practice.
It was inspired by many hours spent washing up.
Oil on canvas, laminated kitchen counter (frame)
