Artist's description:

We live in the country near a large estate where they (unfortunately) run game shoots. As a result there are a lot of pheasants wandering around the fields and our garden. One such pheasant became a regular visitor and would come right up to our garden fence for some bird seed. We named him Phillip. Unfortunately Phillip met a sticky end on the road through our village. We'd taken some great close up photos of him when he came for dinner and I used one of these as a reference for this painting which is in heavily textured impasto acrylic paints. I love to use vibrant colours and it was very easy to do as the pheasants plumage is so wonderfully vibrant naturally.
This is painted on a deep box canvas with the painting continuing round the sides of the canvas so does not need to be framed. As with all my artwork this has been sprayed with a satin varnish to protect it from dust and UV light.

Materials used:

impasto acrylic
