Artist's description:

I wanted to do something that was visually different. I tried to think out of the box and create a three dimensional piece. How to do it? I saw my husband (a retired builder) using dowelling. A light square shaped wood that I could cut to size. It would be light enough to stick to canvas and so it began. The process involved precise measuring for this piece of artwork. I wanted it to look geometric in every way. Almost Bridget Riley like. The pieces of wood are cut to size then sandpapered. A base is put on the wood and then two top coats of acrylic on three sides. Looking at the piece full on it does look back and white with light reflections of the colours on the canvas. Moving around is where you get the effect and it springs into colour. The painting needs to be on a wall where this is appreciated. Any questions please feel free to ask me anything
