Artist's description:

We Don't Come By Here Often

Stones were stood up on end across the landscape for a multitude of reasons. It is hard for us to step out of our modern contexts and mindsets to try to imagine what these markers were put up for. Standing a thirty ton chunk of granite or limestone on end was no small feat, and wouldn't have been undertaken without due cause - or so we imagine. It would have taken time and resources as well as skill and imagination.

Oil pastel, chalk, charcoal, graphite and marker pen.
