Newlands Sunset #1 is not quite the vibrant acrylic sunset painting it appears to be on first glance. Some months ago there was a beautiful sunrise and I jumped in the car before setting off to work to take a few pictures as the sun rose over Newlands Lane. Later after selecting and cropping the best of the images, purchasing the right sized canvas to show the sunrise in its best light, (sorry couldn’t resist that) I started to lay down the colours with my pallet knife, and try as I might, the painting just wasn’t working so I left it for a few days. When I went back to the piece, it was clear to me that it just wouldn’t work, so I painted it out with Gesso primer. Then came the inspiration for my next sunset, whilst out walking our dog Eva, there were beautiful cool grey clouds in the sky, as the sun was reaching the horizon and about to disappear for another day. So I took out my phone and snapped away for a few seconds before the sun ducked away. For this painting I wanted to add another dimension to the piece so I also took some photos of the surrounding grass, and added it to the foreground of the piece, so as to add more depth. With the cool greys in the background of the piece, to the warm orange’s and dark browns in the foreground, not to mention the semi abstract nature of this vibrant acrylic painting, this piece will perfectly compliment any living space, and enhance the colours in your soft furnishings, as well as being a beautiful piece of original artwork, that is like no other.
