Foaming white waves lap at a woman’s feet as she walks on the shore. The ocean scene is reminiscent of romantic fantasy art nudes and mythological narratives. Droplets trickle down her chest. Behind her extends the vast, tranquil ocean and an overcast, foreboding sky. The water is an intense turquoise and the sky a soft gray-blue. Her dark hair has gently been tousled by the wind and frames her face and neck, laying on her shoulders.
The image is soft with motion; her hand and hair are blurred and her body is rimmed with a thin halo of movement. There are only hints of detail throughout the composition, edges of the moving forms are implied rather than defined.
The horizon is defined by a bold swath of color. Her warm-toned skin beams amidst the otherwise cool palette. Gray seafoam mixes with salmon sand, swirling around her feet; beads of water are caught mid flight.
She has a look of determination as her gaze directly addresses the viewer. She is confident in her nudity, making no attempt at modesty. Leaving behind the tides, she enters the calm serenity of the beach.
False color technique
Using the technique of false color, I produce a restrained color palette. The method is inspired by my training in oil painting, and pays homage to the classic technique of hand-colored photography. Color is applied selectively to give a greater illusion of depth as well as evoke an emotional response.

About the artist
A K Nicholas is a visual artist specializing in figure (fine art nudes) photography. An unapologetic celebration of the female form, these images invite the viewer to explore a dreamlike world. Photography is simply a starting point on this journey to an unknown destination. His unorthodox aesthetic blends sensual imagery with a painterly style of manipulated colors.
Born in the United States, raised in the Middle East, this artist is formally trained in painting, drawing, and photography.
The female form has been celebrated through art for millenia, beginning with sculpture and painting, and extending to drawing and photography. Through the exploration of compositional elements such as curved lines, dimensional forms, and texture, a variety of themes are examined. Fine art nude, erotic, and pinup photography appeals to a special understanding by those who collect it.
