Oil on canvas. Inspired by my time in Athens, Greece. The city has a wealth of Neo Classical buildings (circa 1830 - 1930). Some perfectly preserved, others mere ruins, but beautiful in their own right. It is the detail I find fascinating. The shutters, stone cantilevers, exposed staircases, ornate balconies... monuments to a different time. Unfortunately, as with many cities, vast blocks of old buildings were demolished to make way for concrete blocks of flats during the 60's. None the less, it is not difficult to find a street or two where these grand buildings have survived intact. Making it easy to imagine a more elegant surround.
