Artist's description:

Portrait of Jacques Brel, Belgian singer-songwriter and poet. (1929-1978)
English translations of his songs were recorded by many top performers in the United States, including Ray Charles, Judy Collins, John Denver, the Kingston Trio, Nina Simone, Frank Sinatra, Scott Walker, and Andy Williams.

I always seem to get a bit homesick with the end of the year, so this is for `Le Plat Pays Qui est le Mien`
Avec un ciel si bas qu´un canal s´est perdu
Avec un ciel si bas qu’il fait l´humilité
Avec un ciel si gris qu´un canal s’est pendu
Avec un ciel si gris qu´il faut lui pardonner`

So there`s my inspiration for the sombre colour pallet, grey for the Flemish sky and Gauloises Bleues for his cigarettes.

Materials used:

acrylic paint with brush
