Artist's description:

This abstract mosaic panel is made of pebbles, slate and Mexican smalti on an MDF board. It was created in October, 2015, and featured in Grout, British Association for Modern Mosaic, Autumn 2015, p8.

Its dimensions are approximately 15cm x 19.5cm. Please note that the work is unframed.

Caroline creates abstract mosaics because the process enables a sense of flow and enjoyment that is just as rewarding as the finished pieces. Abstract mosaics are like puzzles with no predetermined outcome. It is through reflection on the qualities of each tesserae, and how they will be combined, that the work comes together, piece by piece. Caroline also finds the contrasting colours and textures of materials aesthetically inspiring. Contrasting tesserae can produce unevenly flowing shapes and sizes, which, in the end, form a coherent whole.

Materials used:

Pebbles, slate, Mexican smalti, cement-based adhesive, MDF board.
