Artist's description:

"Mycoplasma" (2015)

This painting is about the smallest free-living organisms.
Mycoplasma species are the smallest bacterial cells yet discovered, can survive without oxygen, and are typically about 0.1 micrometre in diameter.

Without a cell wall, they are unaffected by many common antibiotics such as penicillin that target cell wall synthesis. They can be parasitic or saprotrophic.
Signed and dated on the back. Shipped with a certificate of authenticity.
