This is the first of a small series I have started which focuses on using wood carvings as part of the composition. This was not the intention of the piece as I had initially planned to use gold leaf to highlight the branch on which the leopard is laying. However, I decided to engrave the branch instead and this has lead to further inspiration for new work.
