Heraklion is the biggest city on the Greek island of Crete. The city has seen many changes over the centuries. Once surrounding the Morosini Fountain was a venetian palace. On top of the fountain stood a statue of Poseidon. The painting is like a before and after image. Behind all of the shop in the modern image hides the Venetian palace waiting to be restored.
