….in San Marco Piazza. This cafe has been open continuously since December 1720 and would have seen the invasion of Italy [and Venice] in 1797 by Napoleon. Napoleon was known to have been admiring of San Marco Piazza and to have said that the square in front of Florians cafe was the “ the world's most beautiful drawing room”. In the evening string quartets play in the square - its one of the best free evening shows in Italy/anywhere.
