This work consists of a combination of Japanese and American dress patterns, textile, painted textile and thick heavy acrylic paint. The piece is sealed with a matte varnish and gives a rich feel to the entire piece. The work comes framed with a 1.75" painted black oak frame and is ready to hang. This is the first piece where I am exploring larger pieces reminiscent of actual dress patterns. On top of these I created a strong composition considering negative space with cut shapes of painted textile. I enjoyed creating a thick surface with acrylics, brushing over edges to make them one with the canvas and of course, hanging threads. I also incorporated some elements of stitching within the pattern pieces. Very engaging piece!
