"Merely a Golden Rectangle" is one from my series "Environmental Habits". The series puts animals in modernized environments with square shaped obstacles. The expressive, impressionistic depiction of the animals represent the vigor and tenacity of nature. The animals are juxtaposed with the crisp-edges and high texture of the shapes which represent the organized chaos of an over-industrialized world. Overall the series provokes questions about the relationship between these two forces. "Merely a Golden Rectangle" is oil on a cradled wood panel hand built by me with nice finished edges. It is signed, wired and ready to hang.
Meerkat fun fact: Meerkats are designed to live in the harsh desert environment. Dark patches around their eyes block out glare from the sun, allowing them to be excellent watch guards. Similar to how human baseball players will apply black paint under their eyes. Meerkats also have wide angle viewing allowing them to spot and prevent potential predators from sneaking up on their gang.
