Oil on canvas - a tall, narrow painting. It is currently custom framed in dark green wood (see detail photo). I can include this if you wish, but am not charging for it, as there is some slight damage to the veneer on top right hand corner. That's the risk of shipping my work halfway round the world to get it to England!
This is one of the sacred temple monkeys at Ulu Watu, a very ancient temple on a cliff top in Bali. This temple is famous for its kechak dancing and chanting, and also for performance of parts of the Ramanayana including the heroism of the Monkey King.
This monkey was on the gatepost at the entrance to the performance area just as the sun was beginning to set. He watched the whole audience in, seated in this Buddha-like pose, as if he truly was the guardian of the place.
