A joyful scene from Marrakech in bright oranges and blues. When you wander around the medina you are enticed through archways and alleyways where there is always more to see. You are also drawn towards the warmth of the orange walls and the xcitment of being in a new city.
My work has the overall sense of a painting but as you look close you will see that it is skilfully built up using layers of found papers, tissue and acrylic paint. I celebrate the warmth of worn surfaces of old walls, architecture, tiled floors, decorative motifs and lettering. I want to capture the memory of a place and the sense of human presence, echoing the passing of time. I have spent a lot of timesketching in in Morocco, this painting is from a series of work based in Marrakech.
