Artist's description:

The image forms part of a series exploring the works of 14th century artist Simone Martini. I was intrigued by the idea of how he would have painted modern houses. This painting looks at the bathroom and uses products taken from the IKEA catalogue, drawn in a Gothic manner to create a fusion of styles.

The series came as a result of a project looking at a missing predella for which there is only a Latin description of the work. This led to my interest in painting rooms in Martini's style but including modern furniture. So here is Martini's bathroom.

Materials used:

watercolour paint with metallic gold acrylic on 300gsm Fabriano paper

Medieval Bathroom (2017)
