Artist's description:

The sun was in the perfect spot, the tree was just in the right spot as the sun set, but you can't always get animals to do exactly what you want. I sat in this paddock for 2 1/2 hours capturing the magical afternoon light with around 8 mares and foals. This single mare and foal kept away from the herd, but every time the light hit the trees, they were stuck together in a mass.

I just needed them to separate for a second from each other. After nearly an hour waiting in this one spot, patiently before the sun started to set, the foal finally branched away from the safety of his mother and my patience was rewarded.

Captured in the beautiful Waikato Region at Waikato Stud, North Island, New Zealand.
