Man Ray I
Acrylic on paper
This piece was created after a very intense period of studying Andy Warhol’s life and work. At the time I was captivated by the colours Warhol was using. I love the thick expressive black lines created by screen prints and I wanted to portray this expression in my paintings. I decided the paint this print in particular due to the thoughtful colour choices. The complimentary reds and greens are the main colour scheme, however Warhol continues to make brilliant colour choices as he adds a light blue tone to specific areas of Man Ray’s skin. The use of complimentary colours adds harmony and balance to the expressive use of paint. The bold black outlines and the use of palette knives, adds character, texture and expression to the artwork.
