Spend any amount of time in the Rocky Mountains and you cannot but help come away with a sense of awe. The colors are rich, the formations; majestic and the night sky is packed with diamonds. Well, that was my impression, and when I returned from my trip to Colorado, "Magic Valley 1,2 and 3" emerged from the canvas.
Many layers of thinly laid acrylic paint over collaged papers and selectively applied acrylic medium result in a depth of surface and luminous quality. When the painting was almost finished I applied materials such as cut paper, corrugated cardboard and textured paint scraps as descriptive textural elements. Oil pastel highlights were added at the end and the process finished with a clear acrylic varnish for surface protection.
This painting extends around all edges of the gallery wrapped canvas and so, a frame is not required, although it will accommodate one.
