Artist's description:

I was inspired by this child carried by his mother at the Carnival in Easter Island I attended a few years ago. He was putting up with the searing heat and general uproar in contrast to many other young children who were not. So I thought I would place him in the arms of my Madonna - who is a melange of women - in a rather celestial arrangement reminiscent of the many Madonna and child paintings that have gone before. I have given her plenty of gold, red and ultramarine to reflect her status and the child a little halo to reflect his. This is my work of faith.

I have included a peacock feather partly for its colour but mainly as I have always considered it lucky although I know there are those who consider it just the opposite
