Vibrant Madonna with animals
Lei Zhang, also known as Rain In Need, from Nanjing, a Jinan of Shandong native, is currently living in France and mainland China who, once held ten some personal exhibitions at Chinese Painting Research Institute in Beijing, Chinese and American Culture Research Center of Nanjing University, Hong Kong, Europe, Britain, Germany, France and other countries and whose work style is based on Chinese culture and tradition, blending the techniques of modern Western art with a deep cultural connotation and visual impact. Mr. Zhang's works have been published in the "Jiangsu Pictorial," "People's Pictorial," "Beijing Week", "Chinese Artists Village," "Artist", "Chinese artists," "Shifang", "Urban Space" and French "Asian Culture "," Silk Road "," Daoism ", dozens of publications and the" European Journal "," Paris Week "" European Times "," Sing Tao Daily "and other overseas newspapers and periodicals, also in" Report of Chinese Artists ", "Economic Daily", "Great Art", "Weekend," "Jiangsu Painting and Calligraphy", "Oriental Guardian" and other special reports for more than a dozen newspapers. Lei Zhang's Art Chronology:

1957, born in Nanjing

1974, apprentice of Xiao Ping when at high school

1976, sketched alone in Qufu of Yimeng Mountain; became a worker of a factory

1981, admitted to the Department of Fine Arts of Nanjing Institute of Arts majoring in Chinese Painting, student of Dayu Chen , Wenjun Zhang, Wan Li, Shuzhong Lin, Mengqi Wang, Yuankui Wu and other painters

1985, at theory research and creation work in Jiangsu Provincial Art Museum; participated in "The marching Chinese Youth - National Youth Art Exhibition."

1987, participated in American Tour of "China Youth Painting Exhibition "

1989, ink sketched more than two hundred pieces of figure drawing, (later compiled and published in France); published the articles and drawings more than 30 times in the "Jiangsu Pictorial," "Nanjing Daily", "China Pictorial" and other publications when working with Jiangsu Art Museum

1990, created hundreds pieces of drawings with his own integrated rice paper techniques, and held exhibitions in Nanjing University, and China & the U.S. Cultural Center of Princeton, one the works "Fisherman's Song" collected by Chinese & American Cultural Center, the rest work sold out and ,all works at solo exhibitions in Germany and the United Kingdom collected by private collectors

1991, held "Lei Zhang Ink Sketch Showcase" at Chinese Painting Research Institute in Beijing which, complimented by Mr. Wu Ren, Mr. Boshu Liu; then studied in France at Paris Decorative & Stylish Arts College

1992, the first solo exhibition in Paris; (at Yve Gallery) praised by Pierre Cardin, Xiaguang Lu, Jianzhong Chen, Fa Lin, Lizi Mao and the works sold out

1993, honored as Residing Artist in France by the French Ministry of Culture; joined the French Artists Association and the French Tomorrow Artists Association; solo exhibition at Angers City Cultural Center of France; solo exhibition in Paris (at Affiche Gallery); articles and works published in various newspapers, publications and the medias in Paris

In 1994, solo exhibition in Paris (at Quime Gallery); solo exhibition at Nice Municipal Cultural Centre, France

1995, at Spring Salon Exhibition in France; solo exhibition in Paris (at Quime Gallery) and became a long-term contract painter for the Gallery

1996, appointed as art director of the French Culture and Arts Publishing House; lecturing the culture of Chinese calligraphy at Marseille Academy of Fine Arts; starting to create the "The Ink and Color Painting Series of the Oriental Girl," which published in French newspapers

1997, ��Lei Zhang Ink�� album published by French Culture and Arts Publishing House, (in French)

2001, solo Exhibition in Paris (ink and color painting).

2002, started oil painting, "Person in Hug", "Buddha's Words Series" as the significant works

2003, solo Exhibition in Paris (ink painting), halted oil paintings for some reason, started to create the ink characters

2004, started "China Wind Series" ink and color paintings

2005, started ink and color paintings of lotus after Guilin tour; appointed as editor of Beijing China Artists Village Magazine; various types of works published in "Chinese Artists", "Chinese Artists Village", "Shifang Art" and other professional publications

2006, published ��Collections . Special Edition of Lei Zhang "and " Spiritual Journey Paintings "; Ink Painting participated in six-painter Ink Painting Exhibition at Nanjing Museum; Ink Lotus solo exhibition at Nanjing Jinhan House Gallery, and published the ��My Aspiration with Lotus" albums

2007, appointed as guest professor by Art Institute of Paris Jime International University; published " Lei Zhang Ink and Color art Collections."; "Artists in France, Mr. Lei Zhang Lotus Ink Painting Exhibition" held in February at Ningbo Tea Culture Museum

2008, " Lei Zhang Ink Lotus Exhibition" held in Nanjing Ugly House Gallery; published "Lei Zhang Ink Painting Characters", held "Mountain Habitat Aqua - Lei Zhang & Ruohong Lu Two-painter Artworks Exhibition" in May at Nanjing Jinhan House Art Gallery

2009, solo oil painting exhibition "In Between the Intentional and the Unintentional" in May at Nanjing Jinhan House Art Gallery; appointed as Vice President of Research Society of Chinese Calligraphy and Painting

2010, published "Lei Zhang Lotus Ink" album; appointed as the overseas consultant of Chinese Culture Promotion Association, Jiangsu Branch
