This was a still-life subject set up for an art class that I teach. The fresh mackerel was placed on a bed of ice (which melted as you can see) in a dish, on a newspaper covered table. I like the harmony of the colours - greens, greys, blues and browns with a flash of yellow. Some parts of the painting are painted quite thickly but I chose to leave some of the canvas very thinly finished with just the underpainting showing so that you can see the brush strokes and you get a sense of the contours of the painted surface.
Framed in a handmade contemporary white wooden frame.
