I created this painting from a very small sketch. I had a set design with lines and shapes framing the tree. Painting it was planned at first, but when I got into it, it became spontaneous and the planned lines gave way to integration of color and movement within the piece. The artwork became lyrical and poetic. I limited my palette somewhat with set colors in mind. I added extra lines and curves with the paint in the tree. I extended the shapes from the tree into the background as a last minute thought. Taking a look at this piece makes me think of music, tranquility, magic and love. Trees make me happy.
