Artist's description:

30" x 40" mixed media collage on canvas called "Love and DNA" explores the influences on people's behavior that breakthroughs in science and DNA research might have. In particular, what will happen to love and the search for a mate? Will dating and finding a partner still be about attraction or will future dating be the result of genetic testing and optimized match making? Is it about love or DNA? Inspiration came from an article of the same title by Cat Aboudara of the California Academy of Sciences (see article on KQED Quest online under 2008/03/05/dna-and-love). The artwork is a colorful collage of vintage photos, news print and hand painted canvas cut outs of people and buildings which are collaged onto a painted canvas. It also contains graffiti style markings in black and white. A plexi-glass mirror is collaged over the face of one of the figures to draw in the onlooker to be a part of the artwork and discussion. A clear plexi-glass overlay provides a finished, protective layer that covers but does not touch the front of the artwork.

Materials used:

canvas, acrylic, artist markers, photos, newsprint, hand painted canvas cut outs, plexiglass mirror
