Lost Valley is a woodcut print made with black ink on Arches paper. I printed an edition of 20 from this woodblock, carved over a period of several months in early 2007. I was traveling back and forth between Columbia, Missouri, where I lived, and Kansas City, Missouri, where my Dad lived. It was the last few months I spent with him. I carried my block of wood with me and carved on it, allowing the process of cutting away the wood surface take me to a place of reflection and acceptance.
The image is from a moment spent with my brothers and friends high above a waterfall, coming out of a cave in Lost Valley in Arkansas.
