Inspired by my long walks to the beach with my dog, I developed this design from sketches that I had drawn on site. I was also inspired by John Masefield's poem 'Sea Fever':
''I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.''
In complementary blue and sea greens, this is bound to bring a sense of hopeful optimism, calm and the fresh smell of the surf into the indoors.
This is a handprinted collagraph seascape print. A collagraph print is made by creating a plate on a board which is then sealed with shellac. Textures are built into the surface, and then the plate is inked by hand, and run through an etching press with dampened paper. The plate is inked using various techniques such as viscosity inking, and handprinted each time a print has to be created, which means that there would be variations between the different prints in an edition, making each print unique and original.
The original artwork has a 3d relief aspect to it which unfortunately is not clear in the photographs here.
This is printed on beautifully soft and smooth Somerset Satin Paper with oil-based etching inks.
This is a small edition of 8 prints.
The print is sent unframed in a secure envelope wrapped carefully in a acid-free tissue paper and mount board, but please contact me if you would like a frame and I would be happy to discuss. I send all prints beautifully wrapped, and it would fit any standard frame.
International buyers please note that duties and taxes are not included here.
