I drew this lone rhino from capturing all the visual elements from memory and applied my knowledge on animals I loved working with.
I sketch out the outline of the rhino with a fine liner on a smooth surfaced paper. These are my favorite mediums when I create black and white drawings because it brings alot of depth and texture to the final work. I then apply graphite pencil lightly to describe the shading details on the rhinos face and horns. I shade it lightly on the face so it does not look dark.I gradually moved onto the body finishing of the pencil shading where I toned it down quite a bit.
In my last stages I concentrated on the fine liner detail on the ferns and grass where I also drew a small bird staring at the rhino. The rhino walking in slow motion is captured beautifully.
The graphic detail on the rhnio was visually intriguing because of its realist quality !
