Llywelyn is a large, multi-coloured piece. He is bright and has a positivity about him (as does the lamb he is names after).
I set about painting Llywelyn one evening, after a rather monotonous day. I was craving some colour and so knew I wanted to throw caution to the wind and use lots of different colours – I ended up using 14!
I also felt that I wanted complete freedom with regard to design and so just went with my feeling and poured and then manipulated the paint. Once I was happy, or perhaps before I was completely happy, as I felt the need to push against the ‘rules’ and the ‘norm’. I then picked up the canvas and manoeuvred it until every bit of the canvas was covered. I can see in the end result the way I was feeling that evening. I am however, pleased with the overall look and definite ‘colour hit’ that awaits the viewer.
The canvas has 4.5 cm wide edges and so these are a feature too and have been left on show, using a wide mount card between it and the frame.
Gesso, Fluid Acrylic Paint.
