This painting's story begins with an address book. An address book I've used since the 1980s. FILLED with names, dates, and important stuff. Finally the spine just gave out and the pages were falling out so I upgraded. However the old front and back were really sturdy book board and clearly had to be painted.
I had sold one side and had one left when my youngest spawn came in with 3 leaves from our lilac bush. It smells heavenly when it blooms! And so I showed him how to ink the leaves and print them using a speedball roller. He has a blast and then he said of his leaf prints, "They look like 3 fat ladies in coats."
And he was right, for some reason the leaf prints had developed a little circle head on each one.
So I painted and here you go - the Lilac Sisters in the Lilac Bush Garden with their leaf coats. 7 x 9 inches on thick, heavy book board. :) Sealed under varnish.
