Original artwork description:

LIFTING THE BONNET. 76cm. X 56cm. Soft pastels and Promarkers.
When I started this drawing I did not have a clue what to draw. In fact, I did not even feel like drawing anything. Forcing myself to make the first mark, I then let the drawing tell me what to do. To work like this you have to have some kind of understanding of the language of art to work out what the drawing is telling you to do next, hence the title, Lifting the Bonnet, to understand how an engine works you first have to lift the bonnet. This drawing is pure Abstract it has no meaning other than aesthetics. Understanding aesthetics is to understand the mechanics of art and this belief is what drives me as an artist, understanding how my engine works and how to fix it. I’m just a mechanic looking to be an engineer.

Materials used:

Promarkers and soft pastels
