This is the second Frida Kahlo painting I’ve done in the past few weeks. I’d been asked for years to take a stab at my own portrayal of the Icon, but honestly, the idea has been intimidating!!!! Someone finally talked me I to it, so… This image is loosely based on one of the Artist’s own Self Portraits, in which she is holding a letter. My goal regarding this painting was to keep the background simple, so as to insure that Frida in all her Finery, would be the center of attention. (The most fun part of this piece was designing Frida’s outfit.) The edges of the canvas are painted so it can be hung unframed, if preferred.
