Artist's description:

Some paintings are straight forward, like landscapes, still life, or flowers etc. Others can be different. 'Letters from Robyn' is a more personal thing, which brings back memories of someone I went out with in New Zealand before I returned to England in 1969. I only intended staying in the UK for a few months and then returning to NZ to continue with our relationship. However it was not be, I remained here and found employment in London where I worked for three years, never to see her again. Over the first couple of years she often wrote to me asking when I was going back, but eventually we drifted apart, that was that, just another chapter in my life. During my first year at Liverpool Polytechnic (1974) I was messing about with paints, inks, brushes, and other experimental 'stuff'. This collage was a result of those early days. I used an envelope with a New Zealand stamp on from one of the many letters she sent to me, along with other bits and pieces. At the time my name was Ray Mutch, but I changed my name to Ray Perez in 1987, subsequently there are two signatures which appear on the collage.
