Artist's description:

This painting is inspired by my roots and my tradition of being a Bengali woman...or I can say women as depicted in the novels and poetry of Tagore...
Bengali women are have very beautiful expressive eyes....My painting depicts the patua culture or Pat paintings of Bengal Folk Arts...
I have here painted a woman wrapped in a saree in a very traditional Bengali way and she holds a hand fan... often these hand fans were embroidered and and decorated with Beautiful satin red ribbons...these were made from the dried leaves of palm trees...a long lost object now ...these handfans are rarely found in modern Bengal....
My inspiration of painting women would always be from Tagore or the Nayikas as painted by Abanindranath Tagore and Jamini Roy.
Painting is done on 140 lb Moulin du Roy Cp Paper which has a beautiful velvet kind of texture to it.I have used Daniel Smith Watercolours and Gouache.

Materials used:

Paper ,gouache and Daniel Smith watercolour , ink
