This painting represents the little harbour, called 'la Pointe Courte' in Sète, a town located between the 'étang de Thau' (Thau pond) and the Mediterranean sea. In this work I tried to capture the unique atmosphere and exceptional light of this little fishing harbour, its vibrant colours, its fishermen's huts, fishing boats and drying nets.
This oil was painted in my studio on a linen canvas, using watercolours made in-situ as studies. I painted this work in successive glazes (thin transparent layers of paint) for several months (because of the necessary drying time between each layer). This technique brings depth and luminosity to the painting.
It's sold ready to hang and with a certificate of authenticity. Photos with frame for reference only.
