Abstract encaustic wax painting in a variety of oranges, umbers and ochres, created by blending coloured hot wax blocks, with an encaustic craft iron. Amazing colour, depth and texture. One of a kind, original and unique.
I love creating these paintings, these are as big as they currently get, so prove quite a challenge…. The iron surface is very small compared to the size of the paper, so these beauties take quite some time and manipulation to pull the finished piece together!
I have called this Koi Dance II, as the colours remind me of koi carp… dancing, gliding gently through water, in similar movements to the iron, in a very abstract way! (I have a similar second painting Koi Dance I which work well as a pair, see my other listings)
Being made with wax, I am always asked "Will it melt?!" The wax has a resin added to it, which raises the melting point. This painting survived the summer in my studio, one day at a heat of a 110 degrees fahrenheit / 43 degrees celsius! See my video blog of that day within the 'me at work' section, so, can confirm this painting will not melt at any normal room temperatures, but should not be hung in direct sunlight.
