Loosely based on the concept of the Japanese kimono, I wanted to create a painting which simulated flowing fabric with embroidery as a focal point. The painting consists of three pieces, the two top pieces being intentionally separated by a gap.
This piece was a challenge as all three pieces had to be painted in position to each other, in order for the lines to flow properly. The unusual colour combination was inspired by some paint chips I found left abandoned on a counter at my local paint store. I really had a lot of fun experimenting with texture and colour in the "embroidery" section. My paintings all originate in my mind and since finishing Kimono, I have found that I am very drawn to the idea of the shape of wings coming out from the main part of the painting and have used that concept again in other work. This painting comes with hanging instructions.
